The deepwater treasure
from Márton Kecskés
The first week of July I had the opportunity to break away from the hectic daily routine and go for a few days to a beautiful lake where you can relax. During the trip a lot of things were spinning in my head. What hooks and rigs I should use, what I use for baiting?
But this concern abated, when I felt some fresh air, reached the gravel access road to the lake! When I stepped to the bank I felt unspeakably good feeling that I can spend a few quiet days and hopefully some catch some carp. I quickly spilled my equipment to the bank and I installed the sonar. I took the buoys and I immediatelly started to explore the perfect fishing spots!
I was on a deep-water mining-lake the sonar was a support for mapping. I find fractures, humps, underwater bushes and shellfish fields, the places what the carps prefere! Two buoys were placed in! One is a 6.6-meter depth on the buttom of a fracture because my theory was, that the larger carp pecking for food on the bottom.
On this picture the echo sounder changed the depthview…
The other feeling I had was a hump at 8.5 meters depth, I found mussels too! The two buoy placed, the base feeding mix contained tiger nuts, hemp and corn, small amino pellets and IB boilies of course!
One important thing left! Prepare the perfect rigs! Sometimes the simplest is the greatest! Let’s see it from the base! I used 20mm Carptrack Elite boilie with a yellow 16mm V-pops boilies as a snowman rig. I leave usually two and a half centimeters between the bait and the hook. The hook size was 2, but sometimes a small hook could be better depends on the circumstances, such as early spring or late fall.
I used sinking hooklink with putty on it. As I had to put the rigs long distance from the bank, I wanted to avoid to pull away the hook from the fracture where I placed, it was advantageous to use 150-200g gripped leads! The lake as I mentioned got a lot of mussels so it was advanced to use shells resistant monofilament leader. I chose the 60 Shock’it mono leader at 30 m lenght. I took the leadclips directly to the leader. Both rods were prepared with this technique.
It was enough time before the dark to prepare my dinner and the first night arrived!
I do not have to wait much, I just fall asleap, when a powerfull bite was waking me up. When I took the rod, the carp even tried to run away, so I sat in the boat to follow my opponent! After a nearly 20-minute fight the fish gave up and I could net it. When I arrived to the bank, I weighted my first guest quickly, the carp was 12,80kg! The time was around midnight, so I decided to put the carp in the Carpsack and take the optimal pictures at daylight. I moored carefully not to escape and I slept a few more hours. Really it was just a couple of hours, I had another action. When I got the contact with the fish I did not felt a Big One on the hook. After a short action, I caught an 8-kg wild common carp. After when I released the fish, I took my guest from the sack to have a photo!
The Baits worked well!
The next day was quiet, I noticed that in the high heat of the daytime the carp eat only at night. For a while I enjoyed the silence and darkness and then I slept. Next action was a young carp who wanted to had a breakfast and selected my bait in the early morning. I think that all of us experienced that when we are eating something, mainly we have a bite also. This happened with me during the breakfast. It was a real big fish bite, slowly began to pull and did not want to stand out! Quickly I got on the boat! When I pulled the leader I thought I won the fight. But then the carp showed its power and I felt a force like never before! Then he almost snatched the rod from my hands and then stole down the line! I tried to restrain, but unfortunately he has won this battle! I was a bit sad, but it was one more day to try to catch and maybe I could win next time!
I had the right Baits with me 😉
And it happened!
The night came again, but unfortunately the last night. I could not sleep, my mind was constantly spinned, what was my lost opponent. During the great meditation I almost slept, but then came the big O! Strong and powerful! The fish robbed meters of my line, I jumped in the boat and then the real fight began! I lifted him from 14 meters up and down for 20 minutes before I managed to pull him into the net. I saw a giant mirror carp, his weighed was more than 16kg!
It was a great experience for me to fight with the biggest fish on the tour! I put him into the sack. Quickly I put the rods back and I slept with great hopes. Unfortunately I had to wake up by myself, but happily because I knew it was a nice mustache waiting for the photoshooting. When I opened the sack I found a lot of shells in it. It also confirms that such waters are full of natural food, there must be a high-quality boilie, such as IB Carptrack Elite Boilies to catch a carp!
After the photo session we said goodbye to each other.
I started to packing while I was thinking that, overall, it was another great fishing, it is not always aimed to catch capitals carp over 20-30kg, we are going to have new experience and enjoy it!
The weather circumstances were not ideal for a good carp fishing, but I could catch some carp! Thanks to Imperial Baits high-quality boilie range!
At the end here are some more pictures of the great session…
Good luck to everybody!
